Nadal is the GROAT…?

I mean Federer is the GOAT right??The greatest of all time? And many have debated that Sampras and Rod Laver could be the the GOAT too...but from my perspective Federer is the GOAT because he has Nadal the GROAT...the Greatest Rival ofv All Time as a rival....Think about it, true Sampras and Laver unlike Federer have greater records against their rivals e.g Agassi 20-14 in favor of Sampras..Gonzales 35-21 in favor of Laver, Rosewall 66-75 in favor of Laver and Federer is what 8-13 against Nadal....?But the main point that im trying to convey is that both Sampras and Laver are great players but they did not really have a rival that could equally give them a challenging match up..but when it comes to Federer he has to deal with probably the Greatest Rival a tennis player could ever have. Why?

First of all...

You can see that Nadal has strengthened his game on different surfaces to be on the same level as Federer and Nadal is the only challenging obstacle that federer has to face to win a Slam....Disregarding the US open final last year.....you can see that Nadal is the most frequent player to meet or beat federer in the finals of a slam...How many players have this kind of rivalry at Slams???If you look at Sampras' draw in the finals of Slams ...Agassi was not always on the other side of the net and if he was there....Sampras did not really have to work that hard to beat Agassi(As I said Agassi is not a sufficient rival to Sampras) and this is the same with Laver and his rivals...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Sampras_career_statistics

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Laver_career_statistics#Grand_Slam_finals

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Federer_career_statistics

You can argue that it could be that Sampras and Agassi have met in maybe quarterfinals or Semis but that can bring up another topic :How many pairs have been seeded as the No 1 and No 2 as long as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer???

They've been seeded as the No1 and No 2 for past five years or so??This achievement has been achieved by how many players???One defining characteristic of the rivalry is that Federer and Nadal are the only pair of men to have ever finished five consecutive calendar years as the top two ranked players on the ATP Tour

Let's also not forget the clay advantage in the head to head...
* Clay courts: Nadal 9–2
* Hard courts: 3–3
* Grass courts: Federer 2–1
take away the clay and Fed leads 5-4..

And in defence of federer..Sampras weakness on clay was never improved unlike Federer who has been consistent on every surface...Laver played most Slams on grass...

So the question of debate whether Federer may be the GOAT....well i think the question answers itself....but maybe the question you should be really asking is is Nadal really the the GROAT??
He is the first one to decline from the pair of top two players....LLook at Nadal's condition after all he's been through just to be on the same level as Federer (Injuries, confidence troubles) Quoting Joe Frazier's comment about Ali ,his greatest rival with whom he lost two out of three fights they had....Ali now suffering from Parkinson's disease " "Look at him now and look at me and tell me who really won those three fights," Frazier said." So ....The simple fact is, it's not easy to keep up with Roger Federer. It has caused truly exceptional athletes to push themselves to their physical limits and beyond. Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro have all struggled with injuries, including at the 2010 Australian Open. Nadal, just a couple of days after declaring that he was in excellent condition and had no lingering pain in his knees, defaulted mid-match against Andy Murray in the quarterfinals. Now he's going to be out of action for four weeks, and observers increasingly wonder if he'll ever again reach his 2008 level of play. Federer, meanwhile, floats on from major to major, unimpeded by physical problems despite having to lift up all those heavy trophies. Sixteen major titles; eight straight major finals; 23 consecutive major semifinals.

Yes, Federer is 2-5 in Grand Slam finals against Nadal. But look at Nadal now and look at Federer and tell me who really won those seven matches.Haha(No harm intended)

But I stand firm with my decision that Federer IS the GOAT and Nadal is the GROAT!!!

What bout you??

Am I too old at 15…?

I want to become a professional tennis player and I have just started to take tennis and I want to be like Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Am I too old at 15 to become as big as these stars? I live in Scotland and am 16 in August.

At the start of this season the ATP Rankings was merged with the ATP race to make a new 'easier to follow' Rankings for tennis. This seemed like a great idea to me at the start but i still haven't found a website that shows the points a player will lose during the next tournament.

Below i have given an example of what i mean.

Last Season:

Roger Federer won 2000 Pts for Winning the US Open
Andy Murray won 1200 Pts for Placing second
Rafael Nadal won 720 pts for making the semi finals
Novak Djokovic won 720 pts for making the semi finals

This means we can adjust the points to show where they will lie in two weeks time if they did not win any points during this peroid.

Roger Federer 10,040
Andy Murray 8,410
Rafael Nadal 8,305
Novak Djokovic 6,940
Andy Roddick 5,360

The points on offer for the US Open:
Win 2000
Runner Up 1200
Semi's 720
Quarter's 360

This tells us that Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal can technically become number one rank in two weeks, although it is extremly unlikely, but also that if Nadal out performs Murray he will regain second place and also Roddick and Djokovic are in positions to improve their places if they win the tournament.

This seems very interesting to me but i can't find anywhere on the net that shows this. It's too time consuming to calculate this each week by myself but ATP have to do it anyway so why not show this.

Why do English people support Murray?

I have been watching Wimbledon everyday and I just don't get it. I see all these interviews where you have these English people supporting Murray, saying he is their absolute favourite and what a lovely man is. Have I missed something?

Last time I checked, he hated the whole lot of us. Insults us at every chance. For example:

"Who do you want to win the World Cup?" Murray replied "Anyone but England!!!" ... That was it for me, sod him, and anyone who answers that he was just joking, he wasn't, his manager had a right go at him because he lost lots of support! But why do the English, well some, still support him?

I support anyone who's playing against him, my favourites are Andy Roddick and Roger Federer. They seem genuine and from watching Tim Henman in several interviews, It looked to me that he supported Federer so much more than Murray ... understandably.

Anyway, sorry to go on :P but can you answer the question? Thanks!

I highly doubt that very much, i mean c`mon lol you gotta admit Nadal`s path to winning a gold medal is certainly the toughest out the draw. Lemme refresh everyones memory.... Potito Starace, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic....!!! Now to Roger Federer`s draw.... Dmitry Tursunov, Tomas Berdych, Karlovic.... how has roger got an easier path? and dont say there both equal down the line in the draw cause there just not !!! Its always typical, when rafa is the new #1 will he get easier draws than roger (being seeded 2nd) i mean everyone use to say federer gets the easiest draws because thats the price he pays for being at top of the game....we shall see.
Thank god some people are agreeing with me, i thought i was going nuts lol its sooo obvious fed has the easiest draw. I know he has some ``dark horses`` to play, id much rather rafa had dark horses than two very talented young players like djokovic and murray. Not to forget a former world #1 hewitt !!! haha oh god.........
Yeah i know lol ! I was to excited:P

Federer claims he finds andy murray the hardest player to beat?? wtf Rafa`s rivalry with Roger is one of the biggest in mens tennis!! And if you check the head to heads its clear Federer finds it extremely difficult to beat Nadal!!! Murray hasnt played Federer nowhere near the number of times Rafa has sooo.... also Rafa has shown that he can own Fed on clay, grass and hard :D so maybe roger is saying this just to take off the pressure trying not to think about rafa? lol

I had to go work and missed the second and third set. I seen the close tiebreak with Roger coming out on top and if im honest expected him to close it out seeing as he got the first set. I thought Murray could win but never expected a scoreline like 6-2 6-2.... Did Federer just fall away? Was Andy playing amazing ? I hear Murray has a back injury and even with that Roger couldnt win more than 2 games in the 2nd and 3rd set. OUCH!!! lol Do you think this will knock Federer`s confidence?

Also why didnt roger shake the umpires hand?
Rafa won Doubles Yay!! First official tournament of the year and he takes home a trophy :D woooooooooo !!!

Why has Murray beaten Federer twice ?

I mean its Andy Murray haha ! He leads the head to head over the greatest player in the world Mr Roger Federer, I mean wtf!!! Its crazy im begining to worry now about Rafa`s match, providing Nadal feels good and doesnt have a serious injury im sure he`ll win comfortably but hmm....having my doubts seeing as Murray has defeated Federer twice. At least Rafa leads 3-0 in their meetings.

Roger Federer is out of the Masters Cup.?

'Andy Murray knocked Roger Federer out of the Masters Cup in Shanghai as the defending champion struggled with a lower back injury in a dramatic match.'

Full story here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7729083.stm

Congrats to Murray. Yes, I was a little sad when I found this out.
Federer had his back examined three times during that match, and looked in pain throughout. But y'know, it makes me that much more proud of him at the fact that he never gave up, no matter what. What a fantastic, dedicated person. A true fighter.

"I don't quit once I step on court," said Federer, who had a stomach bug earlier this week and treatment to his back before the deciding set.

"My body was hurting, normally the best of three sets is peanuts and it's a shame I couldn't handle it today."

He was also said to have played 'magnificent tennis' by spectators.

Federer's words were:

"It was a good season. I was happy I could win the US Open for the fifth straight time. I'm looking forward to next year, to go for six. It was an incredible match at Wimbledon. I had very emotional victories in Basel, my hometown… and winning the Olympic gold for Switzerland was a big moment for me. It was tough to start off with and tough to end."

I think he deserves a very well deserved rest. He's had the toughest year. The last time he lost the Masters Cup was a match with Nalbandian. He had an ankle injury, but fought and made it to the final.
Infected by the awful mononucleosis disease which drained his energy and effected him so badly, he still fought and made it to at least every semi final of every Grand Slam this year, making it to the finals of the French and Wimbledon; something many top players can't achieve even when they are healthy, and winning the US open for the fifth straight time. And he fought today, with a lower back injury so bad that it recently forced him to pull out of the Paris Masters. Once again he never gave up.. God bless him and I wish him luck for next year.
(This isn't a question by the way, guys, just letting you know about the news)
You may discuss and share your opinions. =]

I think Fed played amazing tennis but no matter what he did Murray seemed to get the balls back into play and force the errors from Roger. Whatever Fed threw at him, Murray seemed to have the answers and hit back with better shots!!! Does anyone else agree ? hehe At least on the other hand Nadal lost because he was playing bad, his backhand was awful and Simon took advantage of that. Federer was playing good but still lost? :O shocker lol
Good Answers Rafa is hot and tennislover :)
Gianfi, i dont want to answer your question, you cant force me. Jeezo leave me alone for once and for all and stop emailing me.
wow kait actually acknowledges Andy Murray is a good player ?! Funny that considering a month ago you were saying he wasnt that good... haha typical. Anyone who watched the match saw Roger was playing pretty decent tennis, the fact is Murray outplayed him, he caught Fed off guard, got lots of balls back. Roger was hitting the ball well just not good enough to beat Andy...
See Kait, Roger reckons he played well not a lot he could do
