Andy Murray This is Your TimeIt's no secret amongst those who know me, that I'm a HUGE Andy Murray fan!

I've supported him since he first burst on the tennis scene after winning the Junior US Open.

One of the most admirable things about Andy Murray is that he's his own man, he makes his OWN decisions.

Rightly so, this final of the Australian Open which he thoroughly deserves to win, will mark the FIRST of his Grand Slam victories.

What I dislike about the press of this country is that they knock people when they are down and do their best to destroy the confidence and belief of anyone who is their target for the moment.

SO, Andy, today, this is for YOU and your FAMILY, your fans will support you whatever happens.

GO FOR IT!!

This is YOUR time!

Mum’s The Word ! Judy Murray

Judy Murray was there in the front row for her son as he advanced to the Australian Open semifinals on Wednesday, just as she was there at the beginning when Andy Murray’s tennis matches were often played against his older brother in the living room of the family home in Dunblane, Scotland.

“When it was winter, he and Jamie would line up all their little trophies and things across the middle of the living room, and that would be their net,” Judy Murray said in an interview at Melbourne Park.

“A sponge ball isn’t going to hurt anything. I didn’t mind.” Judy Murray also did not mind because she was a tennis nut herself, a determined woman from a sporting family who fell for the game despite the inconvenience of being from Scotland, a place of famous libations and infamous weather where tennis was far down the list of priorities and outdoor hardcourts are, to this day, nearly as rare as palm trees.

Andy Murray Expecting Life to Get Tougher

Andy Murray WINS at Australian Open 2011Andy Murray may have made unimpeded progress at the Australian Open so far, but from now on he knows it's going to get tough.

The world number five beat Ukrainian Illya Marchenko on Thursday to follow up a first-round victory over Karol Beck which saw the Slovakian retire in the third set when staring defeat in the face. But he is anticipating a more difficult test next in the shape of 32nd seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

"He's playing very well right now, the last seven or eight months," Murray said of the Spaniard. "His ranking has got a bit higher and he's getting seeded in slams."

Garcia-Lopez's best win to date came in Bangkok in October, when he saved 24 of 26 break points on his way to a three-set semi-final win over world number one Rafael Nadal.

Murray added: "He beat Rafa at the end of last year in Bangkok, that was a big win there. He's a very solid player, he does everything well and he's improved his game on hard courts so it's going to be a tough match."

Murray is, at least, looking forward to facing a different type of player after the all-out attack tactics employed by Marchenko and Beck.

"If you play against a guy who goes for his shots you can't dictate all the points," he said. "But, in the next round, I think I'll get a chance to do that and make him do a bit more running."

However, Garcia-Lopez, who beat Eduardo Schwank 6-4 7-6 (10/8) 6-1 in the second round to match his best run at a grand slam, warned Murray that he will "give him nothing".

The 27-year-old from Albacete said: "It will be a difficult game, he is an opponent who in theory is better than me and so I will have fewer options.

"But I will give him nothing, he will have to beat me."

Is this why Andy Murray lost?

With Nadal there, it's going to be tough. Nadal often has trouble against Andy Murray, so Federer's best chance is for Murray to beat Nadal or for Nadal to happen to fall early. Either way, Federer really only has 2-3 years remaining in him. A tennis player's prime is 22-26, he's 27, so he won't hit it as hard, hit it as accurate, etc. I still think Federer has a better chance to win Wimbledon than Nadal does, so in the next 3 years Federer might get at least 2 titles there. The French Open looks almost impossible, but Federer has kind of gotten close, he's lost 3 straight finals to Nadal (but making 3 straight French Open finals is still a big deal). As for Australian and US Open, what do you think? Federer always has a shot, but each time he's eliminated, he knows his chances are getting lower. He might just happen to fall before he even reaches the final (he was down 2 sets to Berdych in this Major, and some luck helped him to come back to win). And if he does reach the final, he might have Nadal. I think this and next year are his best chances, so do you think he can pull it off? This and next year are also his best chances to win the French Open, but I think if he manages to win one to tie the record, he'll have less pressure, and winning the tiebreaker will be easier.

How do you pronounce Cilic?

I am a little confused on how to pronounce the Croatian tennis player's surname, Marin Cilic.I have heard several different pronunciations from the Australian Open commentary team.

Here are a few:
- Chilich
- Sillick
- Sillich

Does anyone know the exact pronunciation?

BTW, he is now playing Andy Murray. Do you think he'll win?

http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/tracker/ttFrame.html?ts=1264668173523&lang=en_AU&syn=none&wh=666&mode=score&ref=www.australianopen.com/en_AU/index.html&db=false&crt=none

First set to Cilic.
6-3
Second set to Murray.
6-4
And Murray wins the next two sets.
6-4 6-2

Can anyone give me 100% proof that it is pronounced like you say it is? Atm, Totem seems to be the most convincing. But all the commentators and even the umpire says "chillitch".

Can anyone show me some references to websites to confirm its pronunciation?

Tennis has change a lot over the past six years. Since the retirement of Pete Sampras in 2002, men's tennis has went into "Federer Era", at the end of 2003 and the whole season of 2004, Federer has dominated in almost all the major tournament until Nadal appear in 2005. These two has conquer the men tennis all by themselves in almost the next three years. When people started to get bored by the top two dominance, Djokovic sneak in at the end of 2007. He break the dominance of Nadal-Federer in Grand Slam tournament in almost 3 years by claiming the Australian Open in 2008. He also break Federer dominance in tennis masters cup by claiming the title in the same year. He "steal" few of the tennis masters series title that use to belong to Federer and Nadal. When tennis fans thought they are done with the "Big Three", here comes Andy Murray. He stunned the world by reaching the final at the 2008 U.S Open. Eventhough he hasn't win any majors yet but his result in grand slams has been improving. And he has become a major force in ATP masters 1000 tournament. He had reached 5 of the past 9 ATP masters finals and won 4 titles and currently ranked world no.2. With his current peak form, it might be his time to claim his 1st grand slam at the upcoming U.S Open.

So, from "Big Two" to " Big Three", and from "Big Three" to "Big Four", which era you like the best?

1. Roger Federer doesn’t win a major title. I don’t think Federer has added the last major to his resume (he has won 15, more than any man in history). The upcoming year, though, promises to be the most challenging of his career as the tour’s young stars (chiefly Juan Martin del Potro and Andy Murray) mature, and Federer’s long-time rival, Rafael Nadal, looks to regain his form after recovering from injuries. This would be Federer’s first year without a major title since 2002.

2. Rafael Nadal wins the French Open and Wimbledon. Nadal isn’t going to age as well as Federer, but I don’t think we have to worry about that just yet. He’ll turn 24 in June and has at least two more good seasons left in his sometimes-achy knees. Once he recaptures Paris, he’ll have a lot of confidence headed into Wimbledon.

3. Maria Sharapova wins the Australian Open. In Melbourne, all eyes will be on the newly unretired Justine Henin, last year’s comeback champ, Kim Clijsters, and defending champion Serena Williams. Sharapova will upstage them all. The 24-year-old Russian struggled with injuries in 2009 and couldn’t master a new service motion, but she played better in the fall (and also reverted to her old service motion). Sharapova performs well in Melbourne and there’s no reason she can’t return to the form that won the title there in 2008.

4. Justine Henin wins the French Open, but not Wimbledon. Since she announced her comeback, Henin has been talking about Wimbledon, the only major title to elude her. Winning it so early in her comeback is too much to ask.

5. Novak Djokovic becomes the No. 1 player in the world. The Serb could accomplish this without winning a major title, since he put in so-so performances in Australia, Paris and London last year (quarterfinals, third round and quarterfinals, respectively) and can gain lots of points at those tournaments. This is the case even if prediction No. 2 (Nadal wins the French Open and Wimbledon) comes true, provided Nadal doesn’t perform nearly as well at the Australian and U.S. Opens, where he has a lot of points to defend (winner and semifinal).

6. Venus Williams doesn’t win a major, contemplates retirement. Last year’s Wimbledon final took a lot out of the elder Williams sister. She’ll turn 30 this year and the women’s field, weak in recent years, is suddenly difficult again now that Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova are motivated and healthy. If Venus continues to suffer from niggling injuries and perform poorly at the major tournaments, she might well call it quits.

7. Argentina wins the Davis Cup. To residents of the greatest tennis nation to never with the Davis Cup I say, “2010 is your year.” Juan Martin del Potro is getting better by the month. David Nalbandian is ready come back from injury. And for once, the team will get along well enough to capture a title, while defeating Russia and defending champion Spain along the way.

8. Melanie Oudin drops in the rankings. Melanie Oudin is for real. She’s tough-minded, has first-rate footwork, and her playing style is suited to all surfaces. She still needs time to mature, however. Oudin plays a risky game (lots of angles and little margin for error) and I expect her to lose more bets this year, now that people are expecting a lot from her. Good things, perhaps great things, are in her future, but probably not in 2010.

9. Dinara Safina falls outside the Top 10. Safina, who’s been suffering from a lower back injury, was a wreck (mentally and physically) by the end of 2009. In 2010, we’re going to see how tough it is to obtain the No. 1 ranking by playing pretty well everywhere but not winning many tournaments. Safina has points to defend at almost every stop on the tour next season. Her ranking could fall far, and quickly.

10. Andy Roddick becomes a father. I’m not privy to any pending announcement, so calm down. The recently married Roddick would make a good dad, though. Why should papa Federer have all the fun?

Okay while I will always believe that it is still way too soon to talk about his ultimate demise from tennis, even I, must admit that he is no longer the dominant Roger Federer we have all come to love. So I am asking everyone when was it did you think it all started to fall apart for him. When did it seem like it was the beginning of the end of Roger's dominance over the sport.

Here are my options:

**Was it when Guillermo Canas beat him at both Indian Wells and Miami Masters Series events in 2007?

Those two losses were a complete shock to me. I honestly thought that he would have beaten Canas in Miami, which would have made his loss in Indian Wells a simple fluke. But when Canas beat him for the second time in two consecutive tournaments, I remember a lot of people were quick to say it was the end of Roger.

**Was it when Nadal pushed him to that tough epic five set thriller at Wimbledon 2007?

I remember almost everyone talking about how that match was the greatest Wimbledon final they ever saw, until this year’s final. And even though Roger won that final, almost everyone could not stop talking about how incredibly well Nadal played in that match and that Roger was very lucky to have beaten him.

**Was it when Djokovic surprisingly beat him at the Rogers Cup final in 2007?

At that point Djokovic had never beaten Roger in his career and in that match Roger was the clear favorite to win, until he blew those 5 set points in the first set, if memory serves me correct. That was the turning point in Djokovic’s career and where everyone saw him as a real threat.

**Was it when Nalbandian beat him both at the back-to-back Masters Events in Madrid and Paris in 2007?

Nalbandian had been playing poorly all year long and no one could have predicted Roger would lose to him in Madrid after he dominated the first set 6-1. But he went on to lose the match and two weeks later Nalbandian again beat him in Paris.

**Was it when he battled mono at the start of the year?

I know there are some who claimed that this is fabricated but I specifically remember Roger pulling out of the Kooyong Invitational Classic which in recent years has been a traditional stop for Roger that he uses to prepare for the Australian Open. This year he pulled out of the tournament citing a terrible stomach virus. Here is the link for anyone who still doubts his mono claim. Clearly he was ill before the Australian Open and which shows that he did not know he was suffering from mono at the time.

http://www.rediff.com/sports/2008/jan/07...

**Was it when Janko Tipsarevic shockingly pushed him to 10-8 in the fifth set at the 2008 Australian Open third round match and then later fell to Novak Djokovic in the semis?

I believed Roger was sick at the time and therefore that’s why this match (Tipsarevic) lasted so long. However looking back at his results this year I just can’t help but feel that this one match really shook Roger mentally. It was like after he won this match, he was never the same again. Therefore his lost to Djokovic was not very shocking to me as I had anticipated it.

**Was it when he lost to Andy Murray in the second round in Dubai?

This was his first match since losing to Djokovic in the Australian Open semis, and his first match since losing to Murray since the last time they played at the 2006 Cincinnati Masters. I fully expected Roger to rebound from his Australian Open defeat but that did not happen.

**Was it when Mardy Fish beat him at Indian Wells and then Roddick finally got his long awaited victory against him at the Miami Masters?

At this point it seemed that something was definitely wrong with Roger. Losing to Roddick is one thing, but losing to Mardy Fish of all people. That’s the one loss he has had this year that I still cannot figure out how that could happen. LOL

**Was it when Nadal blew him off the court at the 2008 French Open final?

Roger rebounded well at Queens the next week, never losing a set or his serve, when everyone thought that his lost against Nadal at the French would have been the ultimate end for him.

**Was it when he lost his beloved Wimbledon to Nadal in what is now being billed as the “greatest Wimbledon final ever”?

He played well to hang long enough with Nadal to force that decisive fifth set, but losing the fifth set and the match was perhaps slamming the nail in the coffin on Roger’s dominance over the sport and the year he has had up until this point.

**Was it when he lost to Gilles Simon and Ivo Karlovic at the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati Masters?

I still believed that he would have rebounded from his Wimbledon heartbreak but these losses proved that he perhaps was not as mentally tough as he used to be.

**Was it when he lost the number one raking to Rafa after his record 237 consecutive weeks at number one?

It only became official on Monday but for the last two weeks now everyone knew that Rafa would be th
I know the question is very long. I apologize for that. I just wanted to invoke a discussion of some sort and hear what everyone's thoughts are concerning this. Hope you all have a nice day.
Just wanted to thanked everyone for answering my very long question. That meant a lot to me so I thought I would leave a few comments.

some_guy - I agree with everything u said about the Wimbledon loss. The match was too close too call and could have easily gone either way. But that loss really has affected him big time since. That's why I said that loss felt like a nail being driven into the coffin of Roger's dominance over the sport. But I still believe he will bounce back even better!!!

KM - I agree with you on the Tipsarevic match. But I had notice Roger's slow movement around the court in his two previous matches at the AO. However after that win over Tipsarevic I felt Roger hasn't been the same ever since. It's like that one win sucked the life out of him and now he has nothing left. LOL
J'Adore - Thanks for the answer. His mono I believe is the reason why he has had a poor season all year-long. He has not been the same since.

chuckred21 - Thanks so much for reminding me about the 2007 French Open final. I believe you have a solid point there. I would never forget the look on Roger's face after that lost to Nadal. Remember two weeks earlier, Roger had convincing beaten Nadal in the Hamburg final and I remember there was a lot of hype over their FO match, but Nadal once again blew him off the court. Then a month later Nadal pushed him really hard in that Wimbledon final, where it seemed that Roger would have dominated Nadal easy on the grass courts. Then a month later he loses to Djokovic for the first time.

Murray said he has been feeling below par since the 2nd round of the Australian Open, and he was affected in his match against Verdasco (now he pulled out of Dubai due to sickness). Federer has bad-mouthed Andy (in his usual subtle way), and Roger seems like the type of guy who would do anything to win - plus he appears to hold grudges against certain opponents. He said a few times that Murray's game has not improved, even after Federer loses to him. Also, Roger disliked the fact that Murray was pronounced by some people as the favorite to win the Aussie.

Mens:

Australian Open - Nikolay Davydenko (He deserves a GS)
French Open - Novak Djokovic
Wimbledon - Andy Murray
US Open - Andy Murray / Tsonga

In my opinion It would be nice to see a year without Federer/Nadal winning a GS

Womens:

Australian Open - Li Na
French Open - Ivanovic
Wimbledon - Henin
US Open - Ivanovic

Preferably Ivanovic for all 4, But I'd like Li Na to win the Australian as she is aging and it would be nice to see China win a GS and Henin to win Wimbledon because she deserves it.

Federer battles off-court foe, mononucleosis??

**This is my first time hearing about this. I'll post some of the article here**

Roger Federer's most intriguing season continues on Monday with a singles match in New York that won't count in the rankings but has still managed to sell out 19,000 seats in Madison Square Garden.
Federer's latest exhibition duel with the now-retired Pete Sampras is just that: an exhibition. But it comes at a particularly sensitive stage of Federer's brilliant career; one where he has looked surprisingly vulnerable to the slings, arrows and energy of the younger generation.
He has played just two tournaments in 2008 and lost twice to 20-year-olds, with Novak Djokovic manhandling him in straight sets in the semifinals of the Australian Open, and Andy Murray upsetting him in a tighter match this week in the first round in Dubai after Federer had taken a five-week break from competition.

Tell me what you think if you decide to read it.

Is Novak eating his own words?

Today, Andy Murray is number 3 in the world. Back during the Australian Open, Novak said that Andy Murray shouldn't be considered in the same breath as Rafa, Roger or himself. Today, that's the not the case. So, do we give Novak the same consideration and drop him from all conversations involving the French Open?

Personally, I think Novak has a better shot of getting to the finals of the French Open than Andy Murray. His game is better suited for red clay and so far, he's had a successful run this season.
